Ciao a tutti!

I am going to apologize that this blog post might be a bit more lengthy than most of them so far!

I cannot even begin to explain what an amazing weekend I had in Rome (pictures are available under the tab --> Pictures:Rome).  I was fortunate enough to have met up with my aunt and her lifelong friend on Saturday, but I will get to that amazing adventure soon.

Friday I woke up at 5AM to go catch a train to Rome from Florence (talk about starting the day off at the crack of dawn).  It was about an hour and a half train ride on the high-speed rail.  When we got to Rome, we were able to drop our bags off at the hotel and go exploring.  We started our day at the Vatican Museums.  It was absolutely incredible being able to see the Sistine Chapel.  It is crazy to think how much time and dedication went into making such a masterpiece.  After seeing the Sistine Chapel, we decided to go into the Vatican.  I promise you this is one of the most beautiful Basilica's you will EVER see if you have the chance to do so.  We spent 5 hours in Vatican City because of how amazing everything was and how much there was to see.

After seeing Vatican City, we went to a nice lunch near St. Peters Square and by that time it was already 2PM.  We then walked to the Trevi Fountain (most people take a bus or taxi because it is so far...but us college kids are always on a budget)!  Making our way to the Trevi Fountain was a lot of fun, especially stopping along the way to snap a couple of pictures!  The thing about the Trevi Fountain that makes it so amazing and puts you in awe is that it comes out of no-where.  We were walking down one of the small streets of Italy and BAM there it was, beautiful as always, and crowded as always!  From the Trevi Fountain, we went to the Colosseum which as always was incredible. Even though we were so tired from walking over 7 miles to get to each location, we managed to keep going!  We went back to our hotels after that and then went out for the most amazing dinner.

The next morning I woke up and headed to the hotel where my aunt and her friend were staying.  I had such an amazing time being able to show them around Rome and what I knew.  We took a Hop-on-Hop-off bus around Rome and we were able to see all the main locations.  We got to have the most beautiful, relaxing lunch in Piazza Navona at a place called Tre Scalini.  It was absolutely incredible to be able to sit outside and enjoy the street music and see the art fair and all the tourists walking around the Piazza.  We ended the day with an amazing dinner at the same place that I had went the night before (Alessio's).

This morning I woke up and unfortunately was a bit under the weather.  I went to the pharmacy and got some cough medicine that did wonders.  I was able to enjoy the nice day with people I love very much.  We walked from the hotel to Santa Maria Maggiore Church where we went to mass.  It was such a fantastic experience being able to be at an Italian mass.  I think that this is a memory that I will always have!

Rome was such a great weekend and left me with so many more memories.  A very special thank you to my Aunt Maryanne and Mary Folino for being able to spend the last 2 days with me!  I can't wait to hear all about your Italian Mosaic Tour!

A Dopo!
